Inventory and no overselling
How Syncwright keeps stock accurate across Lightspeed and Shopify, from barcode matching to the reconciliation safety net.
Not overselling is the whole point. Here is how Syncwright keeps your online stock honest.
Lightspeed is the source of truth
Your point of sale is where stock physically moves, so Lightspeed holds the true on-hand count. Syncwright pushes that count to Shopify continuously. When you sell the last one on the shop floor, Shopify reflects it before someone can buy it online.
How items are matched
Accurate counts depend on matching the right item to the right Shopify product:
- UPC to Shopify barcode is the primary match.
- Manufacturer SKU is the fallback when no barcode is present.
- Ambiguity guard: if a match is not confident and unique, Syncwright holds the item for review instead of guessing.
No blind SKU guessing and no duplicate listings. If Syncwright cannot match an item cleanly, it tells you rather than making something up.
The reconciliation safety net
Lightspeed R-Series has no webhooks, so it cannot ping Syncwright the moment stock changes. Syncwright covers that gap two ways:
- Delta polling: it checks Lightspeed for changes on a frequent cadence and pushes updates quickly.
- Scheduled reconciliation: on a regular pass, it compares both systems end to end and corrects any drift.
The result is self-healing. If a single update is ever missed, the next reconciliation puts it right, so quantities never quietly drift apart.
Inventory buffers
You can hold back a safety margin so the last unit or two never sells online. Set a buffer and Syncwright subtracts it from the count it publishes to Shopify, which is useful when floor stock and back stock are hard to separate.
Orders flow back to Lightspeed
When an order is placed on Shopify, Syncwright records it in Lightspeed as a sale. That keeps Lightspeed the system of record for the day and keeps the on-hand count correct for the next sync.
When something needs you
If an item cannot be matched, or a count looks wrong, it appears on your needs-attention list with a clear reason. Syncwright also sends proactive alerts, so you hear about a problem from us, not from a customer.
